Ron Skinner & Sons strongly believes that our employees are our most important resource. We are committed to responsible business, and rely on the same level of commitment from all who work for us and expect it from all with whom we do business.

We are fully aware of the responsibility we bear towards our employees, customers, and the communities in which we work. Thus, we have given ourselves a strict set of ethical values to guide us in our business dealings which reflects our commitment to respecting all human rights, which includes the following: non-discrimination and equal opportunities, no child labour, no forced labour and freedom of association, as well as ensuring the health and safety of our employees.

Forced labour, including debt bondage, trafficking and other forms of modern slavery is not accepted in our businesses. We do not engage in, or support the use of forced labour, nor shall any employee be required to deposit identity papers at the start of employment.

This statement sets out Ron Skinner & Sons actions to understand all potential modern slavery risks related to its business and to put in place steps that are aimed at ensuring that there is no slavery or human trafficking in its own business and its supply chains. This statement relates to actions and activities during the financial year 1st January 2020 to 31st December 2020.

The Organisation is absolutely committed to preventing slavery and human trafficking in its corporate activities, and to ensuring that its supply chains are free from slavery and human trafficking.

Business organisation, structure and supply chains

This statement covers the activities of Ron Skinner & Sons. The organisation currently operates in the UK only.

Ron Skinner & Sons is a leading car supermarket and operates from a number of sites in South Wales. Its principle activity is the sale of used vehicles and also arranges finance to enable customers to buy vehicles. Ron Skinner & Sons employs over 150 employees directly and also works with a variety of suppliers that support our operations.

Responsibility for the Policy

Responsibility for the operation’s anti-slavery initiatives is by our HR team, overseen by the General Manager. Ultimate responsibility rests with the Directors.

Compliance with the Policy

  1. You must ensure that you read, understand and comply with this policy.
  2. The prevention, detection and reporting of modern slavery in any part of our business or supply chains is the responsibility of all those working for us or under our control. You are required to avoid any activity that might lead to, or suggest, a breach of this policy.
  3. You must notify your manager as soon as possible if you believe or suspect that a breach of this policy has occurred or may occur in the future or report it in accordance with our Whistleblowing policy.
  4. If you are unsure about whether a particular act, the treatment of workers more generally, or their working conditions within any tier of our supply chains constitutes any of the various forms of modern slavery, raise it with your manager or anyone of senior level.
  5. We aim to encourage openness and will support anyone who raises genuine concerns in good faith under this policy, even if they turn out to be mistaken. We are committed to ensuring no one suffers any detrimental treatment as a result of reporting in good faith their suspicion that modern slavery of whatever form is or may be taking place in any part of our own business or in any of our supply chains. Detrimental treatment includes dismissal, disciplinary action, threats or other unfavourable treatment connected with raising a concern. If you believe that you have suffered any such treatment, you should inform the compliance manager immediately. If the matter is not remedied, and you are an employee, you should raise it formally using our Grievance Procedure, which can be found in our handbook and HR document library.

Due diligence

Our due diligence to date has not identified any instances or indications that either slavery or human trafficking occurs in our supply chain.

  • We will take the following steps to ensure that slavery, forced labour or human trafficking are not taking place by:
  • Raising awareness of this statement across Ron Skinner & Sons.
  • Introducing new colleagues joining Ron Skinner & Sons to the statement as part of their induction;
  • And
  • Maintain a register of all concerns raised and the actions taken pertaining to slavery, forced labour or human trafficking either within our own business or within our supply chains.

Communication and awareness of this Policy

Training on this policy, and all relevant procedures will be included in our group induction process. We will ensure all existing staff access this training in addition to the new starters. The effectiveness of this training will continue to be evaluated.
